The National Drug Advisory Council is expected to be recommissioned by the end of this year, according to Health and Social Development Minister Vincent Wheatley.

Mr. Wheatley provided the update last Thursday in the House of Assembly in response to a question from Deputy Speaker Stacy Mather.

“The National Drug Advisory Council monitors and reviews the drug misuse situation in the territory, particularly focused on drugs [that] are or could potentially be misused in ways that pose significant social problems,” Mr. Wheatley said.

The council, he added, will provide strategic guidance to the Ministry of Health and Social Development to “minimise the negative impacts of drug misuse in the territory, facilitate recovery for affected individuals, and ensure a coordinated approach across different sectors involving managing drug-related issues.”
