The government has hired a consultant to guide the implementation of the territory’s new National Youth Policy.

Dwynette Eversley, a consultant and development specialist with the Trinidad-based Eversley Links and Leads Inc, will be charged with helping to ensure the completion of various tasks.

They include the following:

• drafting the Youth Policy Implementation Work Plan;

• drafting the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Strategic Plan; and

• leading the development of the National Youth Commission, the National Youth Council, and the National Youth Parliament.

Ms. Eversley, who has more than 20 years of experience in the field, is the former acting Regional Director and Programme Manager for the Commonwealth Youth Programme, Caribbean Centre, according to Government Information Services.

Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn praised the hire.

“We look forward to the expertise she will bring, and I am pleased that there will be a transfer of knowledge and skills to the staff of the department,” Mr. Walwyn said. “This is important as we strive to provide the youth with the requisite tools to allow for personal and professional empowerment.”

Brenda Lettsome-Tye, an assistant secretary in the ministry, will work closely with the team while serving as the desk officer for the DYAS.
