Police seized seven motor scooters over a recent seven-day period because their operators didn’t have proof of ownership, licence or insurance, according to a police press release.

Five of the vehicles were seized in Road Town, one in Cane Garden Bay and one in East End as part of a joint operation between the police’s Traffic Department and Tactical Unit carried out between March 21-28.

The scooters are being held until the owners can produce the necessary documentation, according to the press release.

Police Superintendent St. Clair Amory said the force is putting a priority on efforts to curb the number of scooters and cycles driven without the necessary credentials and outfitted with mufflers that emit loud noises.

Police are also urging young riders’ parents, relatives, and church and youth leaders to do their part by encouraging riders to abide by the law.
