Last Thursday, the BVI Cricket Association’s corporate league reached its half way point with all the teams playing two games each.

In the first game, KPMG/MAPLES took on Conyers/Deloitte with both teams looking for their first win in the league.

Conyers/Deloitte won the toss and elected to bat first. All  told, they scored 84 from 10 overs. Murray Laing, of Conyers/Deloitte, was run out by David Welford but scored 15 in the win, while Man of the Match Shevon Williams scored 32 not out, including two 4s and two 6s.

However, KPMG/MAPLES batting proved too strong. Richard May, and Johannes Naude scored a combined 444 from 32 deliveries, with Mr.May scoring 23, including five boundary shots. Both openers were bowled in successive overs by Kaiola Rhymer, of Conyers/Deloitte.

Despite losing the openers, Dan Perkins and David Welford, KPMG/Maples took the match with a margine of 9.2 overs.

The loss dropped Conyers/Deloitte to the bottom of the Pool B table. The team has yet to win a match this season.

KPMG/Maples moved into fourth place and are tied with the Police and Harneys with three points with only run rate separating all three teams. BCQS/Antarctica lead pool B with two wins out of two.

In the second game, the two new teams, Groundworks and Moorings, faced off.

Groundworks had a strong start in the tournament after beating RTW.

The Moorings faced the defending champions, Delta Petroleum, in its first match and lost.

The Moorings won the toss and decided to have Groundworks bat first. Aaron Baker and Mohamed Hasan combined for for a 100-run partnership from 33 balls. Man of the Match Mr. Hasan retired not out on 50 from 18 balls with four 4s and four 6s. Mr. Baker was run out on 32 from 20 balls with two 4s and three 6s.

The Moorings only managed a reply of 69 for 5 in 10 overs.

The Moorings are now in fourth place in Pool A and are still looking for a win this season. Team Groundworks now sits at the top Pool A with two wins. They are tied with six points with Delta Petroleum, but have a better run rate. Team Omega Caribbean is in third place.

The league continues today at 6:30 p.m. at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds with Team RTW facing Team Delta.

In Pool B, the Police will take on Team Harneys. Both team are tied with three points.

The final is set for Dec. 8.
