Bryan Hodge, a 47-year-old farmer from Fish Bay, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Magistrates’ Court Monday, after being accused of driving his jeep into a Solid Waste Department employee.

At about 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, Clement Thompson was on duty cutting grass on the Brandywine Bay Public Road, when Mr. Hodge allegedly drove up, stopped his car and asked if Mr. Thompson didn’t see him coming, Crown Counsel Jude Hanley said in court. He then allegedly became upset and drove into Mr. Thompson “with some speed,” striking him on the right side of his body and knocking him to the ground, she said.

Mr. Hodge then allegedly left his vehicle, picked up a Weed Eater being used by the SWD crew, and walked toward Mr. Thompson with it, before returning to his jeep and driving off, the prosecutor said.

His lawyer, Herbert McKenzie, said Mr. Hodge had a different version of the events.
