Marine police intercepted a fibreglass motorboat carrying 20 migrants at around 7 p.m. Thursday near Virgin Gorda, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

The officers were onboard the police boat St. Ursula when they spotted the vessel close to Brown Rock, she said.

The Immigration Department also assisted with the effort, according to Ms. Drayton.

Police reported that 17 of the migrants are Cuban, and three are from Haiti.

The migrants, three of whom are women, all appear to be in good health, and they have been transferred to the Immigration Department for processing, according to Ms. Drayton.
