With six people vying to represent Virgin Gorda and Anegada in the June 8 General Election, voters in the Ninth District had the most candidates on the ballot, and, as official results released Monday show, they also had the highest turnout of any district in the territory, with 1,231, or 76 percent of registered voters, casting ballots.

District Nine voters, who elected the National Democratic Party’s Dr. Hubert O’Neal with 55 percent of the votes cast for six candidates, also overwhelmingly supported the NDP in the at-large races.

The NDP’s four-member at-large team earned a combined 2,733 votes compared to the Virgin Islands Party’s 1,700 combined at-large votes from that district.

District Eight also saw overwhelming support for the NDP, with 2,882 votes going to the NDP’s at-large candidates.

Independent candidate Dancia Penn, who represented the Eighth District from 2007-2011, saw her greatest support coming from that district, coming in fifth place in the at-large field there, ahead of top VIP vote-getter Dr. Karl Dawson by 88 votes.
