Recycling BinsTen-year-old dancer Shevonya Francis has longed to perform with her father for years. On Saturday, that wish came true in front of thousands of people at the BVI Dance Fest.

Shevonya and her father, Edson Francis, joined other father-daughter pairs in performing to Luther Vandross’ “Dance with My Father.”

“It was a nice moment,” Mr. Francis said. “I was nervous a bit, but honoured to do the dance.”

The piece was among about 30 performances at the show, which featured more than 300 children dancing to musical genres including hip-hop, soul, funk, classical and pop.

They wore costumes to match: There was a parade of colourful and sparkly outfits as the groups took turns on stage.

The event, which lasted nearly three hours at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, began with a piece called “99 Red Balloons” by the Primary 1-C Ballet Group, choreographed by Sarah Jones.
