Guy-Michel Hill has been appointed to act as chief immigration officer for a year, succeeding Dennis Jennings.

Governor Boyd McCleary made the appointment after consultation with the Public Service Commission, according to Government Information Services.

Mr. Hill, whose acting appointment is effective as of Oct. 1, has been in the public service for more than 25 years.

He served in the position of immigration officer from 1987 until 2003, after which he was appointed to act as deputy chief immigration officer.

In 2007, he worked in the Department of Inland Revenue as assistant commissioner until 2009. In March of that year, he returned to the post of deputy chief immigration officer.

Mr. Hill, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology, has received extensive training in law enforcement disciplines, according to GIS.

As chief immigration officer, he will be in charge of the overall administration and activities of the department.
