Spray flew through the air as waves from Tropical Storm Isaac pounded against several partially submerged boats in Baughers Bay last week. Politicians have called the derelict vessels an eyesore since they piled up during Hurricane Earl two years ago, but the boats remain.

“These things can’t be done overnight,” Governor Boyd McCleary said during a press conference on Aug. 22. “There are complications over the legal situation and we’re trying to resolve those issues.”

Mr. McCleary said the Attorney General’s Chambers is reviewing the question of how to remove the vessels, but no action will be taken until owners are properly notified and any legal matters are resolved.

It is unclear how long it will take to sort out such legalities, and despite several attempts made by this newspaper, the AG’s Chambers did not respond to requests for comment for this article by yesterday’s deadline.
