During his visit here in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Duke of Gloucester will open next Month’s Caribbean Arts and Crafts Festival, which is to honour East End and Long Look straw workers, organisers announced last week.

The Caribbean Artisan Network, which hosts the weeklong event, is still accepting artisans from around the region who have not yet registered, according to a press release from organisers.

The event is to kick off with a 2 p.m. ceremony at Trellis Bay on March 9. It will continue there through March 12 before moving to Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour on March 13, the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park on March 14, and VG’s Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and North Sound’s Bitter End Yacht Club on March 15.

This year’s theme is “Use our natural resources in the preservation of our cultural heritage and our imagination to revitalise our economy and cultural identity.”
