The fairy tale Aladdin was performed with a Virgin Islands twist over the weekend at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

More than 20 residents helped put on the show by Limelight Productions, which has produced several plays in the past.

The script was tailored to the VI, with the characters dropping names of places around the territory throughout the play. There was also a modern twist, as actors sang recent R&B songs, including Jordin Sparks’ “No Air,” and Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Going Down.”

HLSCC student Shane Liburd played the role of Aladdin, a poor village boy who was known as a thief and who was in love with the emperor’s daughter, Princess Lotus Blossom (Keira Ugalde)
