Michel Drappier traveled more than 4,200 miles from his family’s winery in northeast France to spend his afternoon at the Treasure Isle Hotel on Friday. Laid out on a table before him were bottles of Champagne Drappier, a brand he hopes will become better known in the Virgin Islands.

Mr. Drappier, speaking at the 2011 Wine Expo hosted by the distribution company TICO, said he’s been pleasantly surprised by the reactions he has received from VI customers.

Valerie Boisgirad, wine manager at TICO, said the expo hosted 15 suppliers from around the world, who gave bar managers, charter yacht chefs and others the opportunity to sample their products.
