Two prison inmates pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis on Monday.

On Nov. 9, prison officials were conducting random cell searches, and, while they were searching the cell occupied by Tiffern Henley and Lorne Parsons, a prison officer outside the cell allegedly saw a Ziploc bag emerge from the cell window, Crown Counsel Leslie-Ann Faulkner said in Magistrates’ Court.

The bag allegedly contacted 48.4 grams of suspected cannabis, along with a cell phone and charger, Ms. Faulkner said. Mr. Henley was in the cell at the time, and both he and Mr. Parsons “made no reply” when questioned by police about the substance, the prosecutor said.

Magistrate Tamia Richards ordered the two men to return to court Jan. 16, allowing time for an analyst to visit the territory and test the substance.
