On Saturday afternoon, Rhoda Joseph sat under a tent at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, filling out job applications.

Ms. Joseph was among scores of people who showed up for the college’s second annual Job Expo.

Since arriving at about 10 a.m., she had filled out applications for more than five positions and given her resume to representatives of several businesses, she said.

Alegra Jennings, the event’s coordinator, sat at a desk at the entrance of the expo. The fair was going well, she said.

“I wanted to see more people, though,” she added. “We have done our job; it is up to people to take advantage of this.”

Last year, several companies reported that they were able to hire people through the fair, according to Ms. Jennings.
