Social workers visited schools last week as part of outreach activities conducted by the Social Development Department.

The visits were timed to coincide with Social Workers Week, which was themed, “Social Workers: Helping Create Better Tomorrows.”

During a session at First Impressions Primary School, two social workers interacted with students: Marshay Smith, SDD social welfare officer, and Eileene Potter, deputy superintendent of the Rainbow Children’s Home.

The women explained their profession, the role of the SDD, and how families benefit from services offered, according to Government Information Services.

Teams also visited the Alexandrina Maduro, Leonora Delville and Althea Scatliffe primary schools and the Elmore Stoutt High School.

Other activities included a thanksgiving service at the New Life Baptist Church, morning devotions on ZBVI Radio, community bulletins on ZBVI’s Almanac, and open houses at the Social Development Department, Peebles Hospital Social Services, the Family Support Network and the Sandy Lane Centre.
