A man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in Sea Cows Bay in 2012 has been apprehended by authorities in New York, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has been seeking Dominican Republic native Alberto Rosa de la Rosa, an entertainer known as “Piyoyo,” since he was connected to the death of his countryman, Riky Dennis Bautista Familia, who was stabbed to death at a Sea Cows Bay bar on the night of Nov. 16, 2012.

“The arrest resulted from a formal request made by RVIPF Major Crime Detectives to the US Department of Justice via the BVI Attorney General’s Chambers,” said RVIPF Crime Division Detective Superintendent Alexis Charles. “We are delighted that Alberto Rosa de la Rosa has been detained.”

Mr. Charles said an extradition process is being undertaken to bring Mr. Rosa back to the territory to face manslaughter charges. The suspect’s first court appearance was scheduled for Friday at the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
