After operating for about six years, Sensation Ferries will “indefinitely” cease its daily trips between Tortola and Virgin Gorda starting May 1, the company announced on Facebook.

The statement blamed “circumstances beyond our control,” but it didn’t provide further details.

A man who identified himself as the company owner refused to explain to the Beacon what caused the decision, and the BVI Ports Authority did not respond to a request for comment.

In the statement, the company expressed gratitude for the loyalty of ferry passengers since 2018.

“This decision was not made lightly, and it has been our absolute pleasure serving our daily customers for the past six years,” the company noted. “We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your loyalty, patronage and support over the years. We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences caused and look forward to serving you again in the future.”

The indefinite suspension of the service is likely to come as a blow to tourist businesses on Virgin Gorda.

Several Facebook users expressed regret in comments under the ferry company’s announcement.
