Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn has asked the newly appointed Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee to organise exciting festivals with a blend of local and international entertainment and to take full responsibility for the events’ finances, according to a press release from the committee.

The committee, which has since started planning next month’s Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, should find ways of getting greater value for public funds, Mr. Walwyn said during a March 1 meeting.

To that end, committee Chairman Marvin Blyden pledged to submit the committee’s final accounts to Cabinet “immediately following the conclusion of the annual August Festival activities,” according to the release. In addition, no festival invoice will be paid without a purchase order from the executive committee, Mr. Blyden added.
