Fire trucks decorated with balloons drove down Waterfront Drive on Sunday afternoon with their sirens blaring.

Inside were Fire and Rescue Services officers and children, who waved and tossed pens and pencils to bystanders.

The motorcade was part activities for Fire Safety Awareness Week, which marks the department’s 25th anniversary this year.

The activities kicked off with a service at the Road Town Methodist Church on Sunday.

Lectures, fire drills and other activities at schools and businesses are scheduled to continue throughout the week. Also, open houses will be held at fire stations around the territory, and child passenger seats will be installed for free.

The activities are to culminate on Sunday with an 11 a.m. beach picnic and family fun day at Long Bay, Beef Island.
