The BVI Horse Owner’s Association hosted the Boxing Day races on Dec. 25 at the Ellis Thomas Downs.

Organiser billed the races as a warm-up to the Triple Crown event scheduled for Jan. 15 on Tortola.

The feature race was won by Good Prospecting in 51.2” in the one mile race. East End Tap took second place.

In the fourth race, Broken Home beat Lake Texoma in the 6.5-furlong event for the  $3000 purse.

The third race was also a 6.5-furlongs competition for mares and fillies. Nat’s My Kiss was scratched, while Glorious Memory ran away with the victory over Tiger’s Mischief in 1:29.”

Spirit on Fire took the first race over Power Ten in 1:35.3” to take the $2800 purse. Gaffione was third, while Rey Miestro Jr. came in fourth. Man From the Hill and Blood in the Sand were scratched.

Several St. Thomas horses were unable to make the trip due to various reasons. This left several races with only a few contenders like in the second race where Northern Pike and Mick G ran a seven-furlong race. Northern Pike would take the victory and the $3000 purse in 1:34.1.”

The sixth race was cancelled due to lack of participation.
