A reduced subvention from government has sent H. Lavity Stoutt Community College officials “back to the drawing board,” according to the report on the recent deliberations of the Standing Finance Committee.

Just a week after learning the college’s government funding was to be reduced, HLSCC President Dr. Karl Dawson made his presentation to the SFC, a private committee that includes all of the Virgin Islands’ elected leaders, according to a report on the proceedings.

Asked by First District Representative Andrew Fahie how the college would proceed given the reduced funding, Dr. Dawson said that as subventions continue to decrease, officials plan to look toward other revenue sources.

“He further stated that he would like to explore the question of financing the institution as a whole,” the report says of Dr. Dawson’s remarks.
