Building up the “sluggish” economy means making it easier to do business in the territory, which is a guiding principle behind the government’s upcoming push to revamp the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, said National Democratic Party representatives on their radio broadcast this week.

“I think the premier is, as we speak, engaging in an overall restructuring of the department first and foremost to be able to iron out some of the kinks that are interfering with making the process itself move smoothly,” said Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering (R-D7), the minister of natural resources and labour.

Dr. Pickering said there are “some structural changes” in store for the department, particularly where the granting of trade licenses is concerned.

The comments came in response to a question from a caller about the “cumbersome process of obtaining a trade licence.”
