A 58-year-old Canadian tourist died unexpectedly on Christmas Day while headed to Peebles Hospital to be treated for a sudden illness, police said.

David Lemoine was visiting Scrub Island Resort with three companions, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said.

Mr. Lemoine had just gone snorkelling when he complained that he felt ill, she said. Members of his party tried to get him to East End to meet an ambulance, but he died in a private vehicle on the way to the hospital, she said.

Ms. Drayton said that an autopsy determined that Mr. Lemoine died as a result of a heart attack.
