Three men arrested in connection with two aggravated burglaries that took place on April 14 and 15 have been released, police said.

Victims of the home invasions reported being held at gunpoint by three masked men, according to a press release from the Police Information Office. The alleged incidents occurred in two different homes: one in Havers and the other in Great Mountain.

During one of the home invasions, a shot was fired, “but no one was injured,” according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton, who said a nine-millimetre shell casing was recovered from the scene.

The first break-in occurred shortly before midnight on Sunday, April 14, and the second followed shortly thereafter at roughly 1:30 a.m.

“This is a most unusual occurrence here in the BVI, and has left the victims feeling vulnerable and traumatised,” acting Police Commissioner David Morris said in the press release.

While investigating, detectives and Customs officers executed multiple search warrants “across the island of Tortola,” which led to the arrest of the three men, the release stated.

Following questioning, however, they were released.

One of the three, Malik Aaron, 20, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis before being granted a $50,000 bail with one signed surety, police said.

Ms. Drayton said the investigation continues, adding, “It’s a very active case.”
