When Loren Walwyn pleaded guilty to possession of an illegal firearm in Magistrates’ Court Friday, prosecutors offered no evidence against Kezzia Carey, who had been charged with the same crime.

“Ms. Carey, you’re free to go,” Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards said.

Mr. Walwyn, a 25-year-old resident of Horse Path, had originally pleaded not guilty to the charge. Although he was granted $80,000 bail during a previous court date, he has not taken the offer, and he is currently on remand, prosecutors said.

While reading the allegations, Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe said police received information that led them to execute a search warrant at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 at the Horse Path home where Mr. Walwyn lives.

During the 45-minute search, officers uncovered a nine-millimetre Tanfoglio pistol with an obliterated serial number, Ms. Scatliffe said.
