Riky Dennis Bautista Familia was stabbed to death outside of Maria’s Bar — also known as Jazmin Bar — in Sea Cows Bay on Nov. 16, police said.

On Tuesday, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Alberto Rosa de la Rosa, who they suspect is responsible.

“The investigation is at an advanced stage,” said acting Police Superintendent Alexis Charles. “The response from the community has been good and we have secured a lot of evidence.”

Mr. Charles added that Mr. Rosa de la Rosa may have fled the territory soon after the incident.

Mr. Familia, a native of the Dominican Republic, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a post mortem examination confirmed that he died as a result of a stab injury, police said.

The suspect

“The reason we are offering a reward of $10,000 and not a higher amount is that we have a known suspect in the case,” Mr. Charles said. “We merely need to know where Rosa de la Rosa is.”

The reward is payable to people overseas as well as within the Virgin Islands, according to a police press release.

Mr. Rosa de la Rosa, a 32-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, is described as a five foot eight inch tall Latino weighing about 140 pounds.

“He is an entertainer known locally as ‘Piyoyo’ and may now have a missing tooth as a result of a mouth injury,” according to a police press release sent shortly after the alleged murder.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact detectives from the Major Crime Team at 284-468-2718.

“All information will be treated in complete confidence,” Tuesday’s press release said. “All reward payment amounts will be decided upon by the commissioner of police.”
