Fifteen “junior scientists” will be spending their Easter vacation on the beach — studying it.

As part of a programme sponsored by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, secondary school students interested in the sciences will spend their break learning about the environment.

The session will include study of energy, earth science and recycling, according to Government Information Services.

Jephet Gordon, the programme’s facilitator, said the students will focus on the coastline.

“It is about observing a beach, carrying out measurements, such as the length and width, and looking at both the human and physical activities that are taking place at the beach,” Mr. Gordon said. “We also look at beach erosion, users, things that are dumped in the beaches and wildlife.”

The programme runs three times a year during school breaks and costs $25 per year. For more information call 468-3701 ext. 2151.
