A man accused of causing a public disturbance on Greenland Public Road appeared at the Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face a litany of charges.

Jeremy Nibbs, who did not have a defence attorney, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, indecent language, and two counts of disorderly conduct.

However, he pleaded not guilty to assault with intent to prevent lawful apprehension.

Senior Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly alleged that Mr. Nibbs was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend on Greenland Public Road on Aug. 3.

Their argument interrupted the flow of traffic and attracted the attention of a crowd, according to the prosecutor.

Mr. Kelly said police responded to the scene, but had trouble subduing the defendant, who cussed at the officers and ignored their warnings to calm down.

Police used a taser on Mr. Nibbs, but he continued to resist arrest, kicking an officer in the face and damaging a chair at the East End Police Station, according to the Crown.

Mr. Nibbs, who admitted to most of the accusations, told Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo that he had acted out because he consumed alcohol while taking medication.

The magistrate explained that he was still responsible for his decision to mix alcohol with medicine.

Ms. Baptiste-DaBreo granted $20,000 bail signed with one surety and ordered the defendant to return for a reporting date on Feb. 17.
