Rebecca Fonseca, who was allegedly caught on a security camera entering a business owner’s home and stealing $1,000 out of his pants’ pockets, pleaded guilty to theft at the Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo granted the defendant $30,000 signed bail and instructed her to return for sentencing on Feb. 6.

Senior Crown Counsel Garcia Kelly claimed that the virtual complainant, who owns The Lubricant Store in Vanterpool Estate, placed about $1,000 into his pants’ pocket on April 3 before he closed his business for the night.

The complainant then went to his residence, changed his clothing, and went to sleep, said Mr. Kelly.

When he woke up the next morning, the money was missing from his pants, according to the prosecutor.

Security footage allegedly showed a woman, whom he identified as Ms. Fonseca, entering his home in the early morning hours of April 4 and stealing the money, said Mr. Kelly.

Police were notified and the defendant was later arrested and charged, according to the Crown.

Ms. Fonseca, who did not have a defence attorney, told Ms. Baptiste-DaBreo on Friday that she had since returned the stolen money to the complainant.
