Garna O’Neal took the stand during a sentencing hearing Friday and said she still suffers from severe injuries after she was hit and dragged by a safari bus in Wickams Cay II when she was on her way to the post office in June 2010.

“I still have scars all over my body,” she said.

Stedroy Matthew, the man responsible, pleaded guilty to reckless driving in March 2011. On Friday, he was sentenced to one year in prison suspended for 18 months and fined $900 for the crime, High Court Justice Albert Redhead ruled.

Ms. O’Neal was hit by the safari bus while crossing the road at the intersection near the former Clarence Thomas Building. She suffered eight broken ribs, a broken arm, and a ruptured spleen and liver.

To the victim, who aired her frustrations during the court proceedings, Mr. Redhead said, “I think if you get rid of your anger it will help you to heal.”
