Decades ago, the Saturday lunch menu in a Virgin Islands home was not complete without fungi and fish, according to Elaine Blyden, a resident of Fahie Hill.

Ms. Blyden was among residents who attended the Taste of the BVI Culinary Arts event on Thursday at the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works Museum.

Nearly a dozen tents erected in front of the museum offered local dishes for tasting and for sale. Even though none of the vendors had fungi and fish for sampling, Ms. Blyden was pleased to see other local fare, such as pea soup, she said.

The event was part of activities for the Festival of Arts, which continues tomorrow with a performance at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium and Tuesday with an art show at Fahie Hill.
