Workers could be seen on the Paul Wattley Road right up until Aug. 5, the day before the August Monday Parade, but thanks to their effort, the road was paved and ready to be used as an alternate route the day of the event, said Communications and Works Mark Vanterpool Monday evening.

He added that he expects the road to be finished soon.

“Hopefully within 30 days or so, we could have it pretty much wrapped up,” Mr. Vanterpool said on the National Democratic Party radio broadcast Monday evening. He added that sidewalks, lights and drainage components are being installed now.

Mr. Vanterpool also said public officers will be testing the road in the next month. “We want to make sure that when the rains and so on come, that it can drain properly,” he said.

The Paul Wattley Road project was slated to be a priority project, officials said. In December, Mr. Vanterpool said at a press conference that between a “lack of funds” and a negotiation with a landowner in the area, the project had been delayed.
