Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn is proud of the way the public sector and private businesses have come together recently to help the territory’s unemployed youths get jobs, he said Monday night on the National Democratic Party’s radio programme.

The push started Nov. 30 with the creation of an unemployment register for ages 30 and under. It continued with workshops and seminars leading up to a job fair Feb. 9.

At the job fair, a few people got hired on the spot, Mr. Walwyn said, adding that others scheduled interviews and interacted with employers.

To support the new venture, the ministry has contracted Albert Wheatley, who provided some of the job-readiness training, to act as a liaison between employers and employees, the minister said.

“Mr. Wheatley will be the one you can call to get a bit of training or a pep talk,” Mr. Walwyn said.
