While residential and business burglaries are down, the territory continues to experience a rash of thefts from boats and vehicles, police said.

In the past week thieves broke in to four boats moored at Hodge’s Creek Marina and one at Frenchmans Cay while occupants were sleeping aboard, according to a police press release.

“The victims had all retired to bed with the doors and hatches to their boats closed but unlocked and discovered the next morning that their electronic items and money were missing,” the release stated.

In a similar incident at Nanny Cay Marina, a would-be burglar attempted to enter a boat cabin but aborted the attempt and ran away upon discovering that it was locked, police said.

In at least two of the cases, witnesses described the burglars as wearing dark clothing, according to police. One of the burglars was described as a “bulky” 250-pound individual.
