A convicted murderer whose alleged lies to detectives resulted in criminal charges being brought against another man pleaded guilty Tuesday to furnishing false information to one in the public service.

Aaron George, who confessed to the 2006 killing of Vincent Connolly, is to be sentenced Friday by High Court Justice Indra Hariprashad-Charles on the new charge. Mr. George is currently serving a life sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison for shooting Mr. Connolly five times on Oct. 29, 2006. He is eligible for parole after 22 years.

Mr. George and Cecil Penn, a contractor who had performed work at Rosewood Little Dix Bay under Mr. Connolly’s supervision, were arrested on May 28, 2008 for Mr. Connolly’s death.

Prosecutors originally alleged that Mr. Penn aided, abetted or procured the murder due to a construction dispute.

Mr. George pleaded guilty, and prosecutors took into account his cooperation with police. He was expected to testify as to Mr. Penn’s alleged involvement at Mr. Penn’s November 2009 trial. But, instead, on the stand Mr. George testified that the killing was the result of a botched robbery.

Terrence Williams, the then-director of public prosecutions, closed the Crown’s case and Ms. Hariprashad-Charles, who presided over Mr. Penn’s trial, directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict.
