Six people received certificates of British citizenship during a Sunday ceremony at Government House.

Governor Boyd McCleary, who presented the certificates, congratulated the recipients.

“Our new ministers in London are keen on ceremonies such as this where people are welcomed into the fold,” Mr. McCleary said. “They are also keen on the overseas territories being seen as a broader British family.”

The governor added that the UK is working to strengthen its links with the overseas territories.

“They want to do what they can to help support good governance and best practices in financial management in the overseas territories,” he said. “Additionally, they want to assist where they can in developing local capabilities within the territories.”

The new citizens, he said, have all made “major contributions” to the Virgin Islands.
