At a time when Crown prosecutors have been criticised for lacking experience, a new director of public prosecutions has been appointed to take office this month.

Wayne Rajbansie, a native of Trinidad, is scheduled to arrive in the territory on Aug. 11 and to report for duty on Aug. 13, according to government Communications Director Arliene Penn.

Mr. Rajbansie, who became a state attorney after graduating from law school in 1997, left a position as the assistant DPP in Trinidad and Tobago in September 2010.

During his tenure in that position, he was responsible for assisting the DPP with care and conduct of prosecutions in the Court of Appeals and Privy Council, and he advised police services on matters involving investigations, according to Government Information Services. He has since worked in the private sector as an advocate attorney.
