Since the Festival Village opened last Thursday, events there have been progressing smoothly for the most part, organisers said.

“Everything is going on track,” Festivals and Fairs Committee Chairman Marvin Blyden said Wednesday.

Most of the evening entertainment and the lunchtime cultural displays have gone according to plan, according to the chairman. “We had a very big crowd on Tuesday, and today we will be having The Lashing Dogs,” he said, adding, “I think it is going to be an enjoyable weekend.”

However, there have been hitches. The steel pan performances scheduled for Sunday evening were cancelled because most of the musicians were not fully prepared, Mr. Blyden said. The committee had a backup plan, however, and the New Era Band performed instead, he added.

So far, attendance at the Festival Village has been slow, but it is expected to peak this weekend with International Reggae Night tomorrow and International Soca Night on Saturday, Mr. Blyden said.
