Government inked a contract with the Florida-based JIPA Network on Thursday – the same day open registration started for National Health Insurance – to provide a network of overseas health care providers for the NHI programme.

At the signing ceremony at the Social Security Board, JIPA CEO Dr. Kester Nedd explained that Virgin Islands residents will have access to 300,000 physicians across the United States and the Caribbean.

Most providers under JIPA are in the US, he added, but the network has an agreement with the worldwide network Aetna to provide care where JIPA doesn’t have a presence.

The contract was not tendered, Health and Social Development Minister Ronnie Skelton said when asked by a reporter.
