With less than a week before more than two dozen “superyachts” arrive in North Sound, it’s down to “hours mode” for employees of Victor International, company chairman David Johnson said last week.

The company behind the development of a megayacht marina in Virgin Gorda, along with the Sardinia, Italy-based Yacht Club Costa Smerelda and dozens of contractors, are hurrying to finish preparations for Wednesday’s first annual Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous.

“We’re down to hours. And we really have been in hours mode the past month figuring out how to have teams work seven days a week and work till 6 at night,” Mr. Johnson said.

The regatta will feature three days of superyacht racing beginning at 11 a.m. each day on courses around the Virgin Islands. The exact courses will be chosen the day of the race based on weather conditions. Twelve yachts are expected to participate in the racing, and the public is welcome to watch, Mr. Johnson said.
