The National Parks Trust is cracking down on illegal mooring installations throughout the territory.

On April 26, the Trust announced it was requiring all mariners to provide GPS coordinates and evidence of Cabinet approval for their set-ups.

“Once the notice is issued, mooring owners have until [May 22] to come in to the National Parks Trust’s main office on Main Street and identify their moorings, with the GPS coordinates on a map supplied by the Survey Department and ensure their payments are up to date,” Nancy Woodfield-Pascoe, NPT deputy director for science, research and environmental policy, said in a press release.

Owners will also be asked to engrave their respective installations with “private” and their name or “commercial” and their company, she added.

In addition to cracking down on illegal moorings, this process will also help the NPT map and reconfigure the existing mooring field, according to Ms. Woodfield-Pascoe.

Mariners must come to the NPT office and reacquire approval from Cabinet when transferring ownership of a mooring installation to another person or company, she added.
