Shortly after the night turned fully dark, trucks, a forklift, and even people decorated with festive Christmas lights processed down Waterfront Drive Friday night to the sounds of Caribbean Christmas carols.

About half a dozen groups from government agencies including the Ministry of Health and Social Development, the Department of Information and Public Relations, and the Public Works Department, participated in the parade portion of the event, which was not held last year.

“It’s small, but it’s still nice, especially for the kids” said Gina Persaud, who was watching the parade with her daughter and niece, both 3 years old. She had the girls pose in front of the Governor’s Office vehicle, which pulled a trailer carrying a Christmas tree made of lights.

“I think they were hoping to see Santa, though,” she added.

After the parade, which travelled along Waterfront Drive as far as the roundabout, then along De Castro Street back to the Central Administration Building, there was a Christmas-themed showcase of talent.
