The territory is moving ahead with greenhouses at Paraquita Bay, said Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering, the minister of natural resources and labour, in the House of Assembly Monday.

“Notwithstanding the current unenthusiastic chatter about the state of the greenhouse project, we are poised to move forward in a very meaningful way with a view to having production by the end of this year,” he said.

Dr. Pickering said that a “technical audit” performed earlier this year by International Business and Trade, LLC, the company contracted to build the greenhouses in 2009, shows the structures are largely in good condition.

“According to the IBT representatives, the structural framework of the greenhouses was found to be in excellent condition,” Dr. Pickering said, adding that while the electrical system appears to be in working order, it needs to be connected to the power grid.
