Police have charged Royden Sebastien, 28, of Belmont with a 2010 FirstBank robbery, according a police press release.

He is accused of being one of three masked gunmen who entered the bank at about 10:30 a.m. on July 26, 2010 and fled with more than $31,000, police said.

Mr. Sebastien was expected to appear in Magistrates’ Court Monday, but the court and its office closed for the afternoon.

According to the release, Mr. Sebastien was also charged with cultivating cannabis and unlawful possession of the drug, after police executing a search warrant at his home found cannabis seeds, two scales, and what is suspected to be a cannabis plant.

In 2007, Mr. Sebastien was cleared of charges of wounding with intent, carrying a firearm without a licence, robbery and aggravated burglary in connection with the 2007 robbery of the Bank of the Virgin Islands, during which then-Education and Culture Minister Andrew Fahie was shot in the foot.

The charges were dismissed after a July 2008 preliminary inquiry in Magistrates’ Court found no evidence linking Mr. Sebastien to that robbery.
