The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force had two major busts Tuesday morning in Virgin Gorda, seizing two illegal firearms, 189 rounds of ammunition, andten cannabis plantations, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Elroy Dexter Caines, 27, and Kayon Caines, 28, a husband and wife who live in The Valley, were charged with two counts of keeping a prohibited firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police said. They were scheduled to appear in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The RVIPF Special Investigation Unit, in combination with the Task Force and the Criminal Investigations Unit, executed a search warrant on a home in The Valley, where they allegedly found a Tec-9 semiautomatic handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle concealed in the house’s walls. Police took both weapons, along with 189 rounds of ammunition, Ms. Drayton said.

In a separate operation, police found ten cannabis plantations near Gorda Peak, where more than 2,000 plants – ranging from one- to four-feet high – were uprooted and confiscated, along with a variety of cultivation equipment.

Ms. Drayton said both matters are still under investigation.
