In the men’s division, it was a close race between Adrian Copacaneau, who was on a two-year hiatus, and Guy Williamson.

Although, Mr. Copacaneau was quicker in both the swim and bike, Mr. Williamson took over on the run to secure the victory. It was his first Virgin Islands triathlon win.

He completed the “off-road” event — a 600-metre swim, four-mile bike ride and two-mile run — in 54 minutes and 18 seconds.

The men’s record of 48 minutes and 50 seconds set by Michael Ellis in 2011 still stands.

Tash & The Pettigrews won the team category in 47 minutes.

The BVI Triathlon Federation introduced its first aquathon (swim/run) at this event which had eight competitors.

The race consisted of 900-metre swim and a four-mile run. Newcomers Aaron Gardener, Mungo Lowe and BVITF President Antony Spencer were the top competitors.

Messrs. Lowe and Spencer finished the swim together with an advantage over Mr. Gardener.

Ultimately, Mr. Spencer would hold on to the win with a time of 48 minutes and five seconds.

“The addition of this format opened up the field to people who were not comfortable riding mountain bikes in off-road conditions,” said Mr. Spencer. “It was great fun, and good to see so many new faces taking part and enjoying the camaraderie, competition and challenge.”

The next BVITF event is the National Sprint Championships on April 26 in West End. For more information, visit: www.tribvi.com/
