Early Friday morning police made a traffic stop that led to the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of two men, police said.

Just before 4 a.m. officers on patrol noticed a vehicle being driven erratically in the Road Town area, according to a press release from the Police Information Office.

“The vehicle appeared to make an unlawful turn and subsequently made off when signalled to stop by the officers,” the release stated. “A brief pursuit ensued, with the offending vehicle unsuccessfully attempting to evade capture.”

Once the vehicle was stopped in the vicinity of Pasea Estate, police discovered the two male occupants were in possession of a Glock 0.45-calibre semi-automatic handgun, with nine rounds of ammunition, according to the release.

“This is an excellent arrest and an example of good police work on the part of the officers involved,” acting Commissioner Alwyn James said in the release. “One more illegal firearm is off the streets and two suspects are in custody.”

Police continue with enquiries, examining the weapon, carrying out property searches, and interviewing the alleged offenders, according to the release.
