Nearly two months after a 19-year-old man was shot to death near a Free Bottom night club, no charges have been filed in connection with the case, police said.

Javeron Heskey, a Johnsons Ghut resident, was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 18 outside Crystal Night Club in what police at the time called an apparent robbery.

Mr. Heskey was found wearing a mask, and a gun was recovered nearby, according to a police press release. Another man who received gunshot wounds at the same time was treated at Peebles Hospital and released, police said.

Two suspects were briefly held in custody after the shooting, but they were released without being charged, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said in January.

Ms. Drayton added that within days of the shooting, a file containing the results of the police investigation was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which has authority to bring criminal charges.

In an e-mail Friday, Ms. Drayton said the matter is still being considered by the DPP’s office.
