A woman received several stab wounds, including one in the neck, at her Little Dix Hill area home at about 2 p.m. Monday, police said.

She was upgraded from critical to stable condition after undergoing surgery, according to a press release issued by Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

On Tuesday, Samuel James, 40, an Antigua native residing in Huntums Ghut who is the victim’s estranged husband, was charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing, according to the release.

Family and Juvenile Unit officers and representatives from the Department of Social Development provided assistance to the victim’s children, according to the release.

Police continue to investigate the incident, the release added.

“Persons who are especially prone to violence must decide, well in advance, to walk away whenever they are placed in potentially explosive situations and to further get the help necessary to successfully manage anger,” Police Commissioner Reynell Frazer said in the release.
